Q1 2027 TU earnings summary
20 Oct, 2026Executive summary
Methane pyrolysis uses an iron-ore catalyst to convert natural gas or biogas into hydrogen and solid graphite, positioned as a scalable, low-emissions industrial route.
The KBR commercial-scale Process Design Package (PDP) is based on a 30,000 tpa design, supports single trains of 10–50 ktpa and multi-train developments above 100 ktpa, and improved capital intensity ~12%.
Commercialization priorities include converting customer interest into projects across steelmaking, refining, ammonia, liquid fuels and data centres; the “10 in 10” ambition is to reach FEED and FID on a project annually for 10 years.
Financial highlights
Pro forma funding was $12.9m, including $8.3m cash and restricted cash, a $2.3m R&D refund received in October 2026 and $2.3m in WA grant milestones yet to be earned.
Quarter-end cash and cash equivalents were $8.307m; net operating cash outflow was $2.334m for the quarter.
Quarterly cash burn was $2m–$2.3m and had fallen 30% YoY; management cited a 12-month-plus runway through commercial milestones.
Outlook and guidance
The paid Japanese utility study will assess integration and hydrogen production capacities of 30,000 and up to 300,000 tpa; completion was expected by year-end 2026.
The Whyalla selection timeline shifted to Q1 2027; M Resources was among two final bidders, and support for its proposal continued.
Priorities include advancing Canada, converting KBR-led opportunities into projects, progressing graphite offtakes and developing strategic partnerships.
FortisBC is progressing engineering scope and commercial arrangements for its next phase; EPP, KBR and Hazer are discussing the next integration phase for the Marram Energy Storage Hub.
