Directional Pixel Technology (DPT) targets multi-user, glasses-free 3D across automotive, desktop monitors, larger displays and other collaborative uses.
Unlike lens-based displays that divide resolution among viewing zones, DPT is designed to give each eye full panel resolution and wider viewing angles.
The technology is protected by ~15 patent families; its first proof of concept showed three users separate 3D perspectives on one display.
Development and commercialization
High-volume manufacturer Goworld is the licensed manufacturing partner; the business model centers on technology licensing, with potential component sales rather than final-product manufacturing.
Development is focused on a more compact evaluation unit, larger image size and higher resolution; a 7-inch image has been demonstrated.
A new SLM design using standardized nematic liquid crystals is being validated with Goworld for easier mass manufacture and scaling to 27-inch and larger displays.
Physical validation of the nematic SLM is expected before year-end; the evaluation unit is targeted for completion before the end of Q1 next year.
Strategic review and customer evaluation
Grant Thornton was engaged for a structured strategic review examining alternatives to licensing, including development collaborations and potential acquisition discussions.
A global electronics and entertainment company ordered DPT prototypes; one has been delivered for internal evaluation following several months of technical due diligence.
The customer evaluation is ongoing and will shape the next discussion phase; an update was expected within weeks, subject to the customer’s process.
Management said customer collaboration progress is the key factor to watch, while SLM material choice may depend on industry requirements.
