28 Oct, 2026Market and supply dynamics
China supplies ~99% of PSG used in anodes; non-Chinese producers held 5.6% of global anode capacity in 2025, down from 12.4% in 2020.
Anode demand grew nearly sixfold in 2020–2025 at a 42% CAGR; projected demand reaches 4.9 Mt by 2030.
Natural graphite represented 44% of the 2025 ex-China anode market; four leading ex-China producers are expected to grow capacity through 2030.
Pairing Australian PSG with established ex-China anode manufacturers is presented as a route to diversify supply for OEMs and cell makers.
Siviour project and development readiness
Siviour has a 61.8 Mt ore reserve grading 7.0% TGC, containing 4.3 Mt graphite; it is described as the world’s second-largest proven graphite reserve.
Definitive Feasibility Studies and major regulatory approvals are complete; early site works and long-lead procurement are underway.
The project combines the South Australian graphite mine with downstream PSG manufacturing using HF-free processing.
Cash was A$94m at 30 June 2026; a A$185m Australian Government Critical Minerals Facility loan is conditional.
PSG processing and project economics
Demonstration-plant batch trials produced 99.97% C PSG from third-party graphite, above the 99.95% C industry purity requirement; Siviour feedstock trials and customer qualification samples are next steps.
HF-free purification, reagent recycling and integrated water treatment underpin projected cost competitiveness; Benchmark Mineral forecasts the lowest C3 cost among ex-China PSG projects.
The 2023 DFS projects A$1.5bn after-tax NPV10, 26% after-tax IRR, A$363m annual average EBITDA and initial PSG production of 50 ktpa.
DFS capital expenditure is A$215m upstream and A$395m downstream.
