8 Jul, 2026Mission and scientific foundation
Aims to transform the lives of those with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) and other muscle diseases by restoring natural muscle regeneration.
Founded in 2018, operates at the clinical stage, and is listed on TSX and NASDAQ.
Scientific approach based on Dr. Michael Rudnicki’s discovery that DMD is primarily a disease of failed muscle regeneration.
SAT-3247 is a first-in-class, oral, once-daily tablet designed to regenerate muscle and potentially modify disease progression.
Disease background and unmet need
DMD affects 1 in 5,000 male births globally, with about 12,000 affected in the U.S.
No approved therapies currently exist that regenerate muscle; existing treatments have significant limitations.
DMD progression involves early muscle function, followed by progressive loss and premature death, often from cardiorespiratory failure.
Mechanism of action and preclinical evidence
DMD muscle stem cells fail to produce enough progenitor cells for repair, leading to muscle degeneration.
SAT-3247 inhibits AAK1 to restore muscle stem cell polarity and enable regeneration, compensating for the absence of dystrophin.
Preclinical canine studies showed up to 4x strength gain and enhanced muscle regeneration after SAT-3247 treatment.
