Strategy & Outlook 2026 summary
10 Oct, 2026Strategic positioning and market context
Geopolitical shocks and energy-security concerns reinforce investment across oil and gas, power and renewables; integration and geographic diversification support resilience and value capture.
Middle East conflicts have tightened gas markets, delayed LNG supply growth and intensified competition between Europe and Asia.
Electrification, EV adoption, digitalization and industrial decarbonization are driving power demand.
Diversified LNG sourcing supported delivery commitments during disruption, with flexible cargo redirection between Europe and Asia.
Midstream logistics and shipping are gaining importance; tanker charters may expand and alternative pipeline and export infrastructure is under review.
Growth and financial outlook
Oil and gas production is targeted to grow >3%/yr through 2030 to 3 million boe/d; electricity generation targets 100–120 TWh by 2030, with >20% annual growth and 4% annual total energy production growth.
Free cash flow is expected to rise $10bn from 2025 to 2030 at constant prices; $7bn–$8bn is from oil and gas and $2bn–$3bn from integrated power, while post-dividend breakeven falls from $50 to <$35/bbl.
Oil and gas production is expected to remain near 3 million boe/d through 2035, with 2%–3% annual growth targeted for 2030–35; further growth depends on exploration and access to discovered resources, without major M&A.
Net investment is planned at $14bn–$17bn/yr from 2027 to 2032; 2026 CapEx is near $15bn and 2027 at $15bn–$16bn, with flexibility up to $17bn in later years.
At $60/bbl, ROACE is projected at 13%–14%; at $80/bbl, it could reach 17%–18%.
Upstream execution and exploration
All projects underpinning 2030 production growth are in execution; Ratawi Phase 1 is expected in Q4 2026, Kingfisher first oil by year-end, and Tilenga in H1 2027.
Kaminho and GranMorgu remain on track for 2028 start-up; Sépia 2 and Atapu 2 are progressing toward 2029, as is Mozambique LNG start-up.
Exploration and appraisal spending remains $1bn/yr; about 3bn barrels of discoveries are under development or pre-FID, with a four-well Suriname campaign planned for 2027–28.
Mistral AI partnership will develop geoscience models, starting with Angola data, to support prospect identification and reservoir management; new Nigerian fiscal terms could advance Owowo and other deepwater discoveries.
Upstream projects target low-cost, high-margin barrels, with capex and opex below $20/boe and opex below $5/boe.
