Study objective and methods

  • Analysis quantified cumulative prevalence of clinically meaningful hypoglycemia-related burdens among adults with T1D using AID, with mutually exclusive segments.

  • Online survey included 674 adults with T1D; 429 AID users provided self-reported HbA1c data, recruited from the dQ&A US Diabetes Patient Panel.

  • Data were collected July 17–August 1, 2025; segments used four self-reported risk dimensions and were weighted by HbA1c using registry data.

Burden definitions

  • Frequent Level 2 hypoglycemia: moderate events below 54 mg/dL daily, almost daily, or a few times in a typical week.

  • Severe Level 3 event: at least one event in the past 12 months requiring another person’s assistance for treatment.

  • Impaired awareness: never or rarely feeling hypoglycemia symptoms; fear-related behaviors required HbA1c >7% plus strong agreement with specified avoidance statements.

Survey findings

  • Overlapping segments: 24% reported frequent Level 2 events, 12% had a severe event in the past year, and 17% had impaired awareness among 429 AID users.

  • Among AID users with self-reported HbA1c >7% (n=102), 49% reported fear-of-hypoglycemia behaviors.

  • After removing overlap and weighting for HbA1c distribution, 54% had at least one burden: 22% frequent Level 2 events, 14% Level 3 history without frequent Level 2 events, 8% impaired awareness without the preceding burdens, and 10% fear-related behaviors without the preceding burdens.
