Executive summary
First half FY2025 saw net sales decline 4% year-over-year to ¥1,261.3 billion, with operating profit dropping 81% to ¥17.3 billion and net loss of ¥9.2 billion, driven by intensified price competition and sluggish demand recovery.
Retail sales volume decreased 6% year-over-year to 384,000 units, with notable declines outside Japan, Latin America, and the Middle East & Africa.
Structural reforms included divestiture of the engine business in China and suspension of operations at a third plant in Thailand.
Financial highlights
Net sales: ¥1,261.3 billion, down 4% year-over-year; operating profit: ¥17.3 billion, down 81%; ordinary profit: ¥15.8 billion.
Net loss: ¥9.2 billion, mainly due to one-time charges including a ¥7 billion evaluation loss in the U.S. and ¥6 billion loss from withdrawal from a China JV.
Free cash flow for 1H FY2025 was -¥129.6 billion, with total assets down ¥87.1 billion and net cash position declining by ¥156.6 billion.
Capital expenditure rose 3% year-over-year to ¥36.3 billion, while R&D expense fell 5% to ¥57.7 billion.
Outlook and guidance
Full-year net sales forecast revised down to ¥2,820.0 billion, with operating profit, ordinary profit, and net profit guidance unchanged at ¥70.0 billion, ¥60.0 billion, and ¥10.0 billion, respectively.
Dividend per share for FY2025 is forecast at ¥10, with basic earnings per share projected at ¥7.47.
Retail sales volume is expected to remain flat at 843,000 units.
New models are expected to drive profit in ASEAN, Oceania, Europe, and Japan in the second half.
