Status update summary
23 Oct, 2026Commercial agreement and deployment
Binding, conditional Master Energy Purchase Agreement completed Oct. 16, 2026, converting the Dec. 2025 LOI for Great Plains Industrial Park; power supply is subject to licensing, operation and agreement terms.
Pilot of up to 5 MWe targets commercial electricity in Dec. 2027; pilot construction is targeted for March 2027, subject to approvals, technical results, financing and customer commitments.
Great Plains initial phase is up to 150 MW, targeting commercial operation Sept. 30, 2028; later phases could bring capacity to 2,000 MW by 2031, subject to demand.
GPDA purchases electricity generated and made available for tenants, up to contracted capacity; no minimum purchase obligation, and obligations may be assigned to qualifying tenants.
Blue Owl invested $20 million; cloud-provider opportunities include up to 2 GWe, alongside a multi-GWe pipeline of non-binding letters of intent.
Market opportunity and site
Great Plains Industrial Park spans more than 14,000 acres; 100 acres are controlled at Parsons for the DOE demonstration and initial power projects.
U.S. demand gap is estimated at ~114 GW by 2030; deployment concepts include 10 reactors for a 150 MWe industrial site and 100 reactors for a 1.5 GWe hyperscale campus.
Kansas plans include grid delivery through transmission lines and engagement with Evergy; additional sites are under consideration.
Technology and construction
Gravity Nuclear Reactor combines conventional PWR technology and standard LEU with underground placement roughly one mile deep; surrounding rock and water are intended to support pressure control, cooling and shielding.
Design includes gravity-fed cooling, pressure equalization at ~160 atm and three isolated heat-transfer loops; 40+ innovations and 26+ pending patent applications are cited.
Completed a ~6,000-foot Kansas data borehole and a Florida shallow demonstration installing and retrieving a full-size non-nuclear canister; large-diameter drilling and non-nuclear testing are underway.
Youngquist Brothers is evaluating 30–60-inch drilling sections, reverse-circulation methods, custom bits, electric rigs and precision cementing; work reduced planned 60-inch borehole R&D costs.
Planning assumption is 15 MWe per repeat-deployment reactor; units are expected to operate 7–10 years, with a 40-year borehole design life allowing four or five reactors per borehole.
