Outlook and guidance
Tractor industry conditions were expected to remain negative in FY03; new models, cost leadership, supply-chain controls and inventory optimisation were planned to defend Farm Equipment leadership.
Scorpio’s FY03 launch was expected to expand UV coverage and support growth and exports; Automotive also planned niche variants and more CNG, LPG and electric commercial models.
A tough near term was anticipated, while the long-term outlook remained positive, supported by ongoing rural transport and farm equipment needs and potential economic recovery.
Apr 1–Jun 16, 2002 production was 13,548 vehicles and 11,411 tractors; tractor despatches were 11,666 vs 9,412 in the comparable period.
