Q1 2027 earnings summary
19 Oct, 2026Executive summary
FY27 Q1 delivered record revenue of $66.550m, EBITDA of $18.655m and EBT of $13.297m, up 24.6%, 58.3% and 117.6% YoY, respectively.
Strong demand and 10 newly signed underground rig contracts support a pathway to 80 operating rigs before FY27 year-end, with further earnings upside if utilization remains high.
Financial highlights
Reported EBITDA margin was 28.0%, versus 22.1% in FY26 Q1; reported EBITDA included a ~$3.4m Grosvenor insurance benefit.
Excluding the insurance benefit, underlying EBITDA was $15.3m, up 29% YoY, at a 22.9% margin; underlying EBT was $9.9m, up 62%.
Revenue per shift increased 17%, reflecting stronger productivity, contract repricing and fewer adverse operating impacts; productivity was the larger earnings driver than pricing.
Outlook and guidance
10 additional underground rigs are contracted; six are expected to deploy before Christmas and the remaining four before Christmas or early in the new year, subject to clients.
FY27 EBITDA margin goal is 20%, based on a 30% gross margin less 10% overhead; Q1 should not be annualized given seasonality and ramp-up time for new rigs.
Fleet capacity is 93 rigs at 90% utilization; 80 operating rigs would represent ~85% utilization, leaving capacity before further expansion is needed.
Two contracts require renewal in H2; management expects retention, while acknowledging possible aggressive competitor pricing.
