Austria on Air conference summary
8 Oct, 2026Business profile and market position
2024 production output exceeded €6.7bn; order backlog was above €8.5bn at year-end 2024 and reached roughly €9.5bn in H1 2025.
Services span design and engineering, construction, site logistics, operations, renovation and demolition.
Austria contributes 45%-50% of production output; Germany 20%-25%, while Poland, Romania, Czech Republic and Slovakia together account for about one quarter.
Austria is the largest market and has the biggest order backlog; civil engineering accounts for around 60% of backlog.
Market demand and growth opportunities
Poland and Romania are short- to medium-term growth drivers; Poland’s EU-backed projects include five healthcare-related projects and the CPK tunnel order near Łódź.
Poland’s CPK infrastructure has €30bn-€35bn investment potential; PKP PLK’s railway program runs through 2029 at €45bn-€50bn, including two railway modernization orders worth around €400m secured in August.
Romania demand centers on rail and roads; the Sibiu-Pitești highway and Caransebeș-Craiova railway modernization and expansion are ongoing projects.
Germany’s infrastructure package is a longer-term opportunity: contracts are not expected before 2026, with first P&L impact expected in 2027 at the earliest; €100bn of the €500bn package is earmarked for sustainable infrastructure.
Residential construction showed early order momentum in Austria and Germany; modular construction is designed to deliver costs below €2,000/m². Healthcare construction is forecast to grow 6.5% in 2025 and around 4% in 2026.
Profitability and execution priorities
EBIT was €158.4m with a 2.6% margin in 2024; the 2025 margin outlook is 2.8%-3%, with a 2030 target range of 3.5%-4%.
Margin levers include stronger market and product positioning, lean construction, lower overhead and tighter tender selection; a group-wide cost control program targets overhead currently at 7.6% of revenue.
Since 2021, six risk-management milestones have been applied to projects above €20m, comparing actual and planned figures and enabling corrective action or withdrawal from tenders.
