The origins of the Colgate-Palmolive Company can be traced back to two separate companies in the 19th century. In 1806, in New York City, William Colgate initiated a small enterprise focused on starch, soap, and candle production. Over the subsequent years, the business, under the consistent guidance of the Colgate family, diversified and expanded its product line, with its toothpaste gaining notable recognition. Meanwhile, the B.J. Johnson Soap Company unveiled the Palmolive soap in 1898. This unique soap, a blend of palm and olive oils, quickly resonated with consumers and became a sought-after product. By the early 20th century, both Colgate and Palmolive had established themselves as significant players in the personal care market and the two companies merged in 1928. Today, the company operates in the same industry as companies like Procter & Gamble, Unilever, Henkel, and several others.
