Status Update summary
3 Feb, 2026Strategic vision and mission
Focused on delivering commercial quantum advantage by optimizing performance, scalability, and enterprise-grade readiness across all products.
Emphasizing a balanced approach to architectural trade-offs to ensure robust, scalable, and manufacturable quantum systems.
Mission includes enabling breakthroughs in chemistry, machine learning, and AI, with recent advances in drug discovery and large language models.
Targeting applications that address significant industry challenges, such as drug discovery and energy-efficient AI.
Customer-driven innovation is central, with rapid progress in both technology and commercial adoption.
Technology roadmap and performance milestones
Current systems (Harmony, Aria, Forte) are available on the cloud, with Forte as the flagship, achieving AQ 36 a year ahead of schedule.
Next-generation system, Tempo, will use barium qubits and a reconfigurable multicore architecture, targeting over 100 qubits and performance beyond classical simulation.
2025 goals include surpassing 99.9% two-qubit gate fidelity and bringing a third data center online in Basel.
Long-term targets include six nines logical gate fidelity and scaling to thousands of qubits via photonic interconnects.
All-to-all connectivity and modularity are key to reducing errors and enabling efficient scaling.
Scaling and modularity initiatives
Barium qubits enable higher fidelity, visible spectrum lasers, and better integration with photonic technologies.
Demonstrated 64-ion chains in barium, supporting the path to AQ 64 and beyond.
Modular architecture with local shuttling and photonic interconnects allows for scalable, reliable, and cost-effective systems.
Milestones achieved in ion–photon and photon-mediated ion–ion entanglement, with future plans for scalable multi-system entanglement.
Extreme High Vacuum (XHV) packages under development to enable room-temperature operation and manufacturability at scale.
