Leading solutions for peak productivity
With over 7000 employees and operations in more than 180 countries, this Iceland-headquartered food processing giant, with a 3.5 billion dollar market cap, manufactures and supplies equipment, systems, and software to food processors in the poultry, meat, and fish industry.
Optimizing with digitization and automation
Much like Deere & Company, Marel puts a lot of emphasis on digitization, automation, and robotics when developing new products.
The fishing industry in Iceland accounts for over five percent of the country’s total workforce, which means it is a very important industry for this nation of under 400,000 people. Marel’s founders began experimenting with electronics and computers in the early 1980s to weigh fish to minimize the waste accurately and therefore optimize the profitability and efficiency of their customers.
Equipment for various segments
Since those days, Marel has broadened its scope and today offers equipment for other types of meat processing as well. In fact, poultry is now their largest segment. Marel also offers equipment for wastewater treatment and packing and logistics products.
