Investor Day 2025 summary
8 Oct, 2026Strategic direction and capacity
Vision 2032 targets 149 GW of capacity by 2032, supported by cumulative CapEx of INR 7 lakh crore through FY32; 82.6 GW is operational, 31 GW is under construction, and the portfolio totals 113.5 GW.
Coal capacity is targeted to rise by 26–27 GW, from ~62 GW to 88–89 GW within five years; 16.5–17 GW is awarded or in progress, with 7.2 GW of new thermal orders planned this FY.
Thermal strategy favors brownfield, mainly pithead, cost-plus projects using existing land and infrastructure; FY25 capacity additions were 4 GW, followed by 3 GW in FY26.
Renewable capacity is targeted to reach 60 GW by 2032 from 8 GW, with a pipeline exceeding 24 GW; ~6 GW of additions are planned this year, with 1.3–1.4 GW already added.
India's power demand is expected to rise with GDP growth, and per capita electricity consumption is projected to reach 3,000 kWh by 2050.
Transition and new businesses
Nuclear ambition is 30 GW by 2047; the Mahi Banswara JV is developing four 700 MW reactors, and 2.8 GW is targeted for award this fiscal.
Pumped-storage pipeline totals 21.37 GW; the FY32 target is 3–5 GW, with 1 GW planned for commissioning this fiscal and 500 MW at Tehri already in commercial operation.
Pudimadaka green hydrogen hub could require INR 80,000–85,000 crore of investment; a 1 TPD plant is under development at Simhadri, with green chemicals assigned to the renewable-energy business.
Storage and decarbonization work includes a 160 MWh CO2-based system at Kudgi, vanadium redox flow batteries, and CCUS; the CO2 system is planned for commissioning by July next.
Expansion into integrated energy includes bio-fuels and green mobility alongside renewables, hydrogen, chemicals, nuclear and storage.
Operational performance and sustainability
FY25 group generation reached a record 439 BUs, up 4%; coal-station PLF was 77.44%.
Forced outage rate was 3.42% in Q1 and 3.75% for FY25, versus 4.03% in the prior year; trade-receivable realization was 32 days, below the 45-day regulatory norm.
Captive coal production reached 46 million tonnes in FY25, up 28% YoY; the target is 50 million tonnes this year and at least 25% of coal needs from captive mining by FY30.
Coal capacity has 100% fuel tie-up, with 15% of coal sourced from captive mines; there has been no fuel supply under-recovery since FY20.
Sustainability measures include emission controls, water conservation, biomass co-firing and net-zero townships; over 40 million trees have been planted and a mega eco-park is under development.
